RAPE IN SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa has one of the highest incidences of rape in the world. Twelve times more women are raped and then murdered in South Africa every year than in the United States. Gang rape is also common, with some victims raped by up to 30 perpetrators at a time.

Added to the high incidence of rape is the extreme violence which often accompanies the attack. This level of violence has been likened to what happens during armed conflict, when civilians are subjected to degradation, ritual humiliation, injuries such as mutilation, and death.


Factors such as poverty and drug abuse on their own are not enough to explain these shocking statistics. South Africa’s ‘culture of violence’ stems from the dehumanising apartheid system and the liberation struggle, where conflict was resolved through force and men were imprisoned, forced in exile or conscription.

I believe that improving laws and support services will lead to more convictions of perpetrators, helping to combat the culture of violence that continues to erode the fabric of our community.

    The rate of crime in our country is increasing in each and every day. I think the government need to come up with different strategies to fight this, because the existing ones are not working.

    In these days things have changed in this world ,i mean it's not even a difficult thing to propose on someone and then you can make your self satisfied ...not to do things that are terrible .

    Men should learn that when they are not wanted by someone they should leave them, not to force themselves upon them without the woman's consent.

    But our women make the excuses about being raped whereas they are not ... even if there was an agreement between them so it shows clearly that they abuse their rights since they know that all the rights were transfered to them so in other words many men are victims on these probems

    I don't get it why those rapist rape people (women) It's not even hard to ask someone to be your girlfriend and then get what you want and not take it by force. Mxm

    I still don't understand why some men are still so cruel. No one can report something that is not a rape. Silence is a crime that is why we have to report crime so that they are sentenced.

    Rape will continue increasing because these rapist are released from jail after short of time, they don't suffer the consequences, so they will do it again and again.

    The hard part is when women are raped by their loved ones which they find difficulty reporting them as they are sometimes breadwinners of their homestead.
