Ministers shelve pledge on women’s safety.

Amber Rudd, the home secretary
The government has been accused of failing women who have been subjected to sexual, psychological and violent abuse after it emerged that a clutch of new laws and codes to protect them have been shelved. Among the proposed measures were laws to stop rape victims from being cross-examined in court about their previous sexual history, and tougher action on domestic violence.
In January 2017 the home secretary, Amber Rudd, pledged that the government would hold a 12-month consultation on a victims’ bill of rights. The initiative, giving victims new legal rights, including the right to be consulted on the conditions of their assailant’s release, was a Conservative manifesto commitment last year. But 13 months later, the consultation has not even begun.
I am of the view that poverty is the major contributing factor of domestic violence. Though in some instances men are abused, it is a fact that women are the ones that make up a larger volume of victims of domestic violence. A lack of financial self sufficiency on part of a women causes her to remain in abusive relationships. I firmly believe that more women should have job opportunities and seek to qualify themselves so that they would have a strong sense of bargaining power.

  2. I think that women need to work hard for themselve not to depend to their men. They must have their goals and achievements. When they depend too much to their husband , men think that they can do what ever they want. So women stand up and fight for this

  3. Its been a long time women fighting for their rights (from 1976) but nothing changes. Let us hope that this time something good will come up. Women do have power but men see women as toys such that we live in fear of men. The funny part is that men are the ones that should keep women safely.

  13. I do not know whats the mater with those in power, when they need our votes they promise us everything you can think of but comes the time they got our votes, they forget everything. Few or non of the things they promised will be delivered. This should come to an end, we are very tired of empty promises!.
